I think this year could be effing awesome.Īwesome. Once we have a set plan, we can coordinate with the SRK guys and figure that out as well. and figured the NG guys would be the first to get asked. I'm ready to start getting stuff planned, reserved, etc. Subquestions: Does the tournament setup make sense? What games would you want to play? Is one day the better idea for the event? Would lanyards and badges be cool to have? Should we do food planning? With estimated attendance anywhere from 30-75 for the course of the day and night, that will probably be the height of the crowd. Sometime around the SFIV tournament, because it will be prime time, we can get a group picture of pretty much everybody. People will be allowed to bring food for that room, but must wash hands before returning to gaming. That's why the extra room would be for quiet. From the pictures of the Ramada, it looks like we could fit quite a lot of stuff in that one room, so I wouldn't imagine it would be that difficult. Nothing too next-gen-ish, but the normal fun stuff. Non-tournament games could include games people brought from home, rock band, Magician's DS stuff, shooters, etc. I don't expect many of these to make the final cut, but could be at the event for assorted playtime:īlazBlue (could be in Class A, time will tell)Īfter that, the area would be carefully packed with other games to be played simultaneously so people can chill out and have that closeness that they like when meeting people. Games that are sure to be desired at the time, but this list could still be narrowed:Ĭlass B would also be for $5 but these are more the side tournaments that depend on whether or not there are enough people. Class S tournaments will have a free play period for practice in the 15 minutes before the tournament.Ĭlass A would be for $5. These would likely be held during prime time, somewhere around 8 or 10pm, but spaced out enough to let participants in both cool down. The tournaments themselves will have classes by likelihood of participation:Ĭlass S would be SFIII and IV, $10 entry. Tournaments will be available for registry beforehand - I'd have to figure out a system - and at the site, likely at the same "desk" as the sign-in. If we get sponsorship, then it would be even easier to get the money to reserve the room and get this stuff. That way we'd know if someone paid, and it also is a nice souvenir for going. We could batch order a hundred of those things for a decent price that could be made up in entry fees. I think it would be pretty sweet to get "Minnesota Meltdown VG Gathering - Summer 2009" lanyards with badges for names. There will be a desk at the front to sign in and pay money. Main issue will of course be enough televisions to ensure tournaments move smoothly and quickly. Equipment lists will be organized between SRK and NG, with hopefully more things than actually will be needed. We can also rent out a room for quiet time and refreshments, but that would probably be the sole purpose of the room - see below.Įntry fees will be based on whether or not people bring televisions, video games, and/or video game systems. Gathering will be held at the Ramada in the place where the last summer gathering was (it was a Sheraton before), with a date possibly at the beginning of September or end of August if we're lucky, beginning with opening ceremonies at 2pm which would encourage people to come for the whole event, and likely continuing until 4am. At the end we can start discussion and whatever, because this is about what WE all want to do, so everything can be subject to change: Here's my proposal that I've talked about with Bobak and djdelly. Get ready for some text, but make sure to read through because your involvement is what makes this happen.ġ) To make this an event that can be cross-run by the Neo-Geo guys and others so that it maintains a level of integrity that you don't really find with a bunch of next-gen street fighter fans.Ģ) To ensure that the event is not EVO - it will contain tournaments but will be based on the fact that we MN people tend to like seeing each other and playing games together.ģ) To build up good enough organization credit with you guys so that we can make a formidable Neo-Geo gathering in the winter which will be neo-centric. It's long past time to start planning for the MN Summer Meltdown! I've spent the last couple days in contact with a few people about the planning stages of the gathering, and I'm ready to get this show rolling, but I want your support in making sure this is an event you will go to and will ENJOY going to.
